Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell was a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss issues such as the Iran Contra controversy.
